Week One
This page will explain all you need to know to prepare for your first week training. Unfortunately, you do not even step into a bus during your first week, however, it's still exciting and a lot of hard work.
Day One
You will start on the Monday. An initial check of your licence will be the very first thing to be done, so BRING BOTH PARTS! Also dress smart, or you will get an ear-full from everyone. You will also be required to bring four passport style photographs. These are for admin duties, and for your staff pass which will be received later on in the day. The first day will be starting your employment record, so lots of form filling will be required, so bring a BLACK pen. In the afternoon, you will be given a talk by first of all, a representative of health insurance, that you can pay into and they will cover part or all of the cost, then another talk by the training manager (currently Eric Dale) Depending on the time, you may be shown a video to introduce your new career. You will be required to start at 08:30.
Day Two
Tuesday will comprise of a few more videos, exams (don't worry, extremely easy exams, and the trainers help you all the way - seems to be more of a formality) and preparing for your theory test. This will cover the whole of Tuesday. You will be required to start from 8am.
Day Three
Wednesday comprises of another exam if required (if time didn't allow you to complete it Tuesday) and going through all of the 977 PCV theory questions, so as when you do your PCV theory test, the questions are all in your head. You will also practice hazard perception on computers.
Day Four
Thursday morning will be going through the rest of the 977 questions, then early afternoon, you will go upstairs to complete your theory test and hazard perception test. Though the theory is relatively easy, you need to work on hazard perception, as a few people in your group will almost certainly fail. Don't worry if you do fail - you can retake with no consequences the following Thursday. After you complete the theory test, you will be measured up for uniform, which you will not receive until you get to the garage where you will be based.
Day Five
A couple of things may happen on the Friday. If you passed your theory, you will go upstairs again to do your CPC (Certificate of Professional Competence) case studies exam. Similar to your theory, but you will be given a passage, and five to ten questions relating to that passage. You must get 40 out of 50 correct to pass.
If you failed your theory, you will stay downstairs and practice what you failed on ready for the following week. All of the class will complete another exam, relating to the history of the company, again, this is easy, so do not worry. In the afternoon, you will be given an envelope with drivers record, other bits of information like show me - tell me questions, and your drivers blue key. You must not open this envelope however, instead wait for Monday and give to your instructor who will open it for you. On the front of the envelope, will be details of where to go on the Monday, which garage to go to, who your instructor is and what time to be there for. Unfortunately, you have no choice in which garage your'e going to to learn bus driving.
